- Welcome to our Community of Faith. We are a Christian
community affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
-
- Two biblical images come
to mind when we seek to understand what being a Christian means.
Those two images are that of disciple and pilgrim. As
disciples of Jesus Christ, we seek to be learners of what it means
to be a follower of Christ.
-
- At First United Methodist
Church we are not as much concerned about being a
"Christian" in the social and cultural use of the word, as
we are about learning and practicing what it means to be a disciple
of Jesus Christ. When the rich young man came up to Jesus, his
first question was, "what do I need to do to inherit
Life?" Jesus told him to let go, give of himself, and
follow after him. We seek to learn what it means to let go,
give of ourselves, and follow after Jesus Christ.
-
- The image of a pilgrim
adds to the meaning of being a disciple because it suggest that we
are going someplace; we are on a journey. Yes we are. We
are on a journey through the seasons of life with all its joys and
its difficulties. And, as Christians, we are on a journey to
God, seeking to grow more in the love, peace, and justice of God's
presence in Christ.
-
- I want to welcome you to
First Church faith community. Here you will find others,
children and youth and adults, who are at various places in the
journey of living the gift of life. However, we are all
learning to be disciples in our walk with Christ. WELCOME!
