Discipleship and Education

We are a community committed to growing in knowledge of God and Christian discipleship by studying God's word and its implications for our lives.  We offer Sunday school classes for all ages, including a number of adult classes.  Other learning opportunities for children include Wednesday night and summer experiences.  Adults can take part in study groups that include various short-term studies, as well as Disciple Bible Study or more intensive courses.

Celebration and Worship

First United Methodist Church is a community that celebrates the gift of life and God's love in Jesus Christ.  We celebrate that gift of love in our weekly worship services and other special services throughout the Christian year, including services with other downtown churches.  Through preaching, sacraments, choirs for all ages, handbells and other instrumental music, and liturgical dance and drama, we praise God and celebrate our unity in Christ.

Care Ministry

Our Care teams offer hospitality to those who are visiting for the first time and support for members of our faith community at times of need. Our church stays connected to homebound members through our Companion and Homebound Communion ministries and by taking cassette tapes of worship services. Other teams offer care to those who are ill or who have lost a loved one. A new program in health and wholeness is being developed, as is a ministry to integrate new members into the life of the church.

Faith Sharing and Witness

We seek to share our faith by witnessing to friends and relatives, but also by reaching out to those we don't know through local media. With other United Methodist churches, we are taking part in an "Igniting Ministries" campaign to invite and welcome others into our fellowship. We invite you to join us for worship and fellowship.

Outreach and Mission

We are a community that reaches out to the world in witness and service.  Like all United Methodists, our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ, and to seek the fulfillment of God's reign in the world.  To that end, we support numerous local mission projects with both financial support and our time and energy.  By our service and in the way we live our lives, we seek to witness to the transforming love of God in Jesus Christ.
